BAQUACIL® Filter Aid : Product Information

Baquacil® Filter Aid  is a highly efficient powder that increases the effectiveness of D.E.   cartridge filters.  This swimming pool D.E. cartridge filter aid helps the filter capture tiny suspended particles of   dirt and debris that would otherwise slip through and return to the pool, causing dull water. These particles are so small that a filter, even in good working condition cannot remove them. If continuous filtration does not improve clarity and/or no rinse in backpressure is noted, the use of a filtration enhancer may be necessary. Baquacil® Filter Aid will assist the filter in the removal of particles too small to be trapped on the filter media.

  • Keeps pool water clear and aids in removing small particles of dirt and debris
  • Can aid in removing particles that might have been resuspended after vacuuming when a flocculant is used
  • Aids operation of D.E. Filters, Cartridge Filters and Sand Filters

Directions For Use

Before using Baquacil® Filter Aid, make sure that the filter is clean and in good operating condition. For diatomaceous earth (D.E.) or cartridge filters, disassemble and hose off the grids or cartridge (s) to remove any loose dirt and debris. Inspect the grids/cartridge(s) for any tears or holes and replace as necessary. If grids/cartridge(s) appear dirty after hosing, clean with Baquacil® Filter Aid as per label directions before proceeding. For sand filters, backwash and inspect condition of sand. If the sand bed contains dbris, clean with Baquacil® Filter Aid as per label directions. Replace the sand if it is very dirty and caked together. Remove skimmer basket(s) and pump hair/lint strainer. If the pool is equipped with a suction type automatic vacuum, disconnect and remove from pool. Make sure that returns are pointed downward and open valves for skimmers and main drain (if pool is so equipped) to create a circular flow pattern. If pool is equipped with a timer remove “OFF Trip” to allow for continuous filtration during treatment.  The filter should be equipped with a pressure gauge in good working condition. Under no circumstances should the backpressure be allowed to exceed the filter manufacturer’s maximum recommended operating pressure. If back-pressure rises 10 psi above starting pressure then either backwash or hose of grids/cartridge(s). If acceptable water clarity has not been achieved then repeat application of Baquacil® Filter Aid.

Diatomaceous Earth Filters

  1. After rinsing/cleaning grids, reassemble and set multiport or push/pull valve in the normal filtration position.
  2. For every pound of diatomaceous earth, mix in 5 cups of Baquacil® Filter Aid to make up the normal quantity of precoat (see Dosage Table for the amount of Baquacil® Filter Aid to be mixed with diatomaceous earth for various size filters).
  3. Slowly pour the slurry into skimmer while pump is running.
  4. Run pump continuously while periodically monitoring backpressure.
  5. When backpressure rises 10 psi above starting pressure, backwash or rinse off grids thoroughly.
  6. Repeat if necessary

Cartridge Filters

  1. After rinsing/cleaning cartridges, reassemble and mix 2 cups of Baquacil® Filter Aid per 25 sq ft of tilter area in a bucket of water.
  2. Slowly pour slurry into skimmer while pump is running.
  3. Run pump continuously while periodically monitoring backpressure.
  4. When backpressure rises 10 psi above starting pressure, backwash or rinse off grids thoroughly.
  5. Repeat if necessary

Sand Filters

  1. After backwashing/cleaning/replacing sand, place multiport valve in filter position.
  2. In a clean bucket, mix Baquacil® Filter Aid (see table below for amount).
  3. Slowly pour the slurry into skimmer while pump is running.
  4. Run pump continuously while periodically monitoring back pressure.
  5. When backpressure rises 10 psi above starting pressure, backwash or rinse off grids thoroughly
  6. Repeat if necessary.
